What is Blue's Clues?

Short answer: An interactive Nickelodeon preschool show in which a host and a puppy named Blue solve a puzzle from three clues.

The original Blue's Clues ran from 1996 to 2006 with hosts Steve and later Joe. The revival, Blue's Clues & You!, premiered on Nickelodeon on November 11, 2019, with host Josh Dela Cruz, a Broadway actor, and a CG-animated Blue, per Nickelodeon's announcement. A film, Blue's Big City Adventure, came out on Paramount+ on November 18, 2022, per Wikipedia. Dela Cruz said in July 2025 that Nickelodeon had canceled the show.

Blue's Clues: what's in it

Short answer: Both series are rated for all children.

• US: TV-Y on Prime Video (Blue's Clues & You!).
• UK (BBFC): U, no material likely to offend or harm.
• Common Sense Media: 3+ for both the revival and the original.

Common Sense Media lists violence, sex, language and drinking as not present. It notes prereading skills like letter recognition and phonics, puzzles that viewers help solve, and a large range of tie-in merchandise.

The host pauses and waits for viewers to answer, and many kids shout at the screen. Some keep doing it with grown-ups' questions.
