Raising Stoics is a small course run by one person. We collect only what the course needs to work, we don't use advertising or third-party trackers, and we never sell or rent your data.
1. Who is responsible
The controller of your personal data is Aleksei Martiushin, Montenegro. For anything about your data, write to [email protected].
2. What we collect
| Data | Why |
|---|---|
| Your email address | To create your account and send you one-time sign-in codes |
| How you found us: the page you first landed on, the referring site and any campaign tags in the link (utm) | To understand which channels bring parents to the course |
| Course activity: sign-ups and sign-ins, which lessons you open, when the app is opened, printables downloaded, which weekly letters were sent | To run the course and see which parts are actually used |
| App progress you choose to enter: your child's first name (or nickname), the start date, completed missions and stories, quiz results and the evening notes (mood and how the day's mission went) | To sync the app between your devices and show progress in your account |
| Weekly letters: whether you signed up, when and where you gave consent, and which week you're on | To send the 12 letters you asked for and prove that you asked |
We don't ask for your name, address, phone number or date of birth. We don't record audio or video, and the app doesn't use the microphone or camera.
Like any website, our hosting provider handles technical data such as your IP address and browser type to deliver pages and protect against abuse. We use your approximate country only once, to choose English or Russian when you first open the home page; we don't store it.
3. About children
The course is for parents. Accounts are created and managed by an adult, and children don't enter any information themselves. The only information about your child we hold is what you type into the app: a first name or nickname and the progress described above. Use a nickname if you prefer. You can rename it in the app at any time, and we'll delete it on request.
4. Legal basis
- Providing the course you signed up for — your email, sign-in and app progress (performance of a contract).
- Your consent — the weekly letters. You can withdraw it at any time with the unsubscribe link in any letter or in your account.
- Our legitimate interest in keeping the service secure and understanding how it's used — the source and activity data. It's collected on our own servers, not shared with analytics companies, and used only in aggregate.
5. Cookies and browser storage
We don't use advertising or analytics cookies, so there's no cookie banner. We use:
- a session cookie that keeps you signed in (up to 60 days) and a small companion cookie that just tells the page you're signed in;
- a cookie that remembers your language if you switch it (1 year);
- your browser's storage, to remember how you arrived during the current visit and to keep the app's progress on your device.
6. Who processes your data
We use a few service providers that process data on our behalf, under data-processing terms:
- Cloudflare — hosting, website delivery and the database;
- Resend — sending sign-in codes and weekly letters;
- Paddle — only if paid parts are introduced and you buy something. Paddle processes payment and billing details as the seller of record under its own privacy policy; we never see your card details.
Some of these providers are based in the United States or process data outside Europe. Where that happens, the transfer is covered by the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses or an equivalent safeguard.
We don't share your data with anyone else, except where the law requires it.
7. How long we keep it
- Account, progress and activity data — while your account exists. When you ask us to delete your account, we delete it within 30 days.
- Sign-in codes — they expire after 10 minutes and are stored only as a one-way hash.
- Weekly letters — after you unsubscribe we keep only a record of your consent and when you withdrew it, so we can show we respected it.
8. Your rights
You can ask us to show you the data we hold about you, give you a copy, correct it, delete it, restrict or object to how we use it, or withdraw your consent. Write to [email protected] from the email address on your account. We'll reply within a month.
If you think we've mishandled your data, you can complain to the data protection authority where you live, or in Montenegro to the Agency for Personal Data Protection and Free Access to Information. We'd appreciate the chance to fix it first.
9. Security
All connections use HTTPS. Sessions and sign-in codes are stored as hashes, and access to the database is limited to us. No system is perfectly secure, but we'll tell you promptly if a breach affects your data.
10. Changes
If we change this policy, we'll update the date above. If a change matters — for example, a new kind of data or a new provider — we'll tell you by email before it takes effect.
