What the Cars movies are about
Cars is a 2006 Pixar film directed by John Lasseter. Lightning McQueen, a cocky race car voiced by Owen Wilson, gets stranded in Radiator Springs, a small town on Route 66, on his way to a big race. It came out in US theaters on June 9, 2006. In Cars 2 (2011), his friend Mater gets mixed up in a spy mission. In Cars 3 (2017), McQueen tries a comeback against younger, faster racers.
Cars movie age rating: what's in it
Short answer: G in the US for all three; PG in the UK for the first film.
- US (MPA): G for Cars, Cars 2 and Cars 3.
- UK (BBFC): Cars PG, mild bad language; Cars 2 U, mild violence; Cars 3 U, very mild threat, language.
- Germany (FSK): Cars 0; Cars 3 0.

Which Cars movie has the most action?
Short answer: Common Sense Media gives Cars 2 its highest age, 8+, calling it a spy thriller with more high-speed chases than the original. The BBFC says Cars 2 has weapons, including a machine gun, that make cars lose control and crash and a brief threat to make a car's fuel combust. Cars 3 includes a demolition derby and a serious crash for McQueen, who recovers, according to Common Sense Media.
The habit kids may copy: "I don't need anybody"
At the start, Lightning McQueen brags and acts like he can win alone. Common Sense Media says the film's message is that you can't go it alone.
