What is Gabb?
Short answer: A company that makes phones and smartwatches for kids, without internet browsers or social media.
Gabb Wireless is based in Lehi, Utah, and was founded by Stephen Dalby. Its devices include the Gabb Phone 4, the Gabb Phone 4 Pro, and the Gabb Watch 3e. Parents manage them from the MyGabb app, which shows location, contacts, and device settings. Gabb says its devices aren't restricted to certain ages, but it lists the watch for ages 5–12 and the phone for ages 9–14.
Is Gabb phone safe for kids? What it blocks
Short answer: Gabb Phone 4 has no app store, no social media, and no internet browser; contacts are child-managed unless a parent changes that.
- Apps: 16 preloaded apps, such as Calendar, Camera, Gabb Music, and Gabb Messenger; third-party apps only on the Advanced plan, after Gabb's review.
- Video calls: Gabb Messenger has no group video calls or unknown callers; Gabb checks calls with periodic screenshots and alerts parents to flagged content.
- Contacts: child-managed by default; parent-managed mode is in MyGabb.
Gabb notes that its content filtering reduces exposure and that no filter is 100% effective.
Gabb Watch 3e: a first step
Short answer: A watch with calls, texts, and GPS for up to 100 parent-approved contacts.
It has no browser, social media, or camera, and works without a phone. GPS updates about every 15 minutes, with Safe Zone alerts. Parents can turn on Focus Mode remotely. Its SOS button calls the child's primary contact, not 911. As of October 2026, it costs $229.99, and the plan is $12.99, $14.99, or $17.99 a month, depending on the contract.
The habit kids may copy: checking for a reply
Texting friends on a watch or phone can turn into checking it again and again to see if someone wrote back.
