What is Monster High?
Short answer: It's a Mattel fashion doll line about the teenage children of famous monsters. Mattel launched Monster High on June 11, 2010, and the characters attend a high school of the same name, according to Wikipedia. Frankie Stein, Draculaura, and Clawdeen Wolf are among the main characters. After sales declined, Mattel rebooted the line in 2016, discontinued it in 2018, and relaunched it in 2020, followed by a Nickelodeon animated series and a live-action musical film.
Monster High age: what the label says
Short answer: Mattel labels most Monster High dolls for ages 4 and up.
- Core dolls: "Ages 4 years and up" on Mattel's shop, for example the Draculaura doll ($26.99).
- Choking warning: the same page says the doll "contains small parts and is not for children under 3 years."
- Collector dolls: Monster High x Wednesday dolls are labeled 6+ in Mattel's shop, and some Skullector dolls are marked for adults.
- Recalls: no CPSC recall of Monster High dolls as of October 2026. In 2013, Dynacraft recalled Monster High-branded electric scooters sold at Walmart for unintended acceleration and falls; that was a scooter, not a doll.
Are there Monster High blind boxes?
Short answer: Yes, some packs hide which doll you get. Mattel's Potions Mini Dolls ($9.99) are 3-inch figures revealed by adding water and shaking the bottle, and "characters may vary." Potions Crystal Ball ($10.79) works the same way. Buried Secrets ($14.99) wrap a mystery doll inside coffin packaging, with bags of accessories to open. Skulltimate Secrets dolls come with 19 or more surprise accessories, but the character is named in the product title.
Monster High shows and movies
Short answer: The Nickelodeon series is TV-Y7, and Common Sense Media lists the movie for 8+.

- Original web series (2010): Common Sense Media 8+, citing fantasy violence such as electrical shocks and body parts falling off, without lasting effects.
The habit kids may copy: the whole skullection
Mattel's Potions product text calls each new doll the latest addition to a kid's Monster High "skullection."
