The 2019 advertising complaint
In August 2019, Truth in Advertising, a nonprofit watchdog, filed a complaint with the FTC. It said that, according to the New York Times as reported by Tubefilter, 92 percent of the channel's videos contained at least one paid product recommendation aimed at preschoolers, and that the partnerships were "not always adequately disclosed." Ryan's father said the family follows all laws and platform rules, including disclosure requirements, Tubefilter reported. We found no FTC action against the channel. The FTC's 2019 children's privacy settlement was with Google and YouTube, not with this channel.
Toys and mystery eggs
Ryan's World toys first went on sale at Walmart on August 6, 2018, made with pocket.watch and Bonkers Toys. The line includes mystery eggs: The Toy Insider describes the Mighty Titan Mystery Egg (2022, ages 3 and up) as holding more than 25 surprises, with many blind bags. In a blind bag, the buyer doesn't know which toy is inside.
The habit kids may copy: one more surprise
The toys are built around unwrapping. The Toy Insider describes a multilayered egg with surprises hidden inside, layer after layer.
