What Trolls is about

Trolls is a DreamWorks animated musical franchise inspired by the troll dolls created by Thomas Dam. It follows upbeat Princess Poppy (voiced by Anna Kendrick) and grumpy Branch (Justin Timberlake). In the first film, they rescue their friends from the Bergens, creatures who want to eat trolls. Three films came out in US theaters or at home: November 2016, April 2020, and November 2023.

Trolls age rating: what's in it

Short answer: PG in the US, U in the UK.

Why young kids know Trolls

The films are built on a toy: the tall-haired troll dolls that first became popular in the 1960s, according to Common Sense Media. The series also has TV spin-offs, Trolls: The Beat Goes On! and Trolls: TrollsTopia.

The habit kids may copy: one mood for everything

Poppy sees the bright side of everything; Branch expects the worst. The same danger looks different depending on who's looking.
