What are Bratz?
Short answer: Fashion dolls made by MGA Entertainment.
The first four 10-inch dolls, Yasmin, Cloe, Jade, and Sasha, came out on May 21, 2001, according to Wikipedia. They were created by Carter Bryant, who had worked at Mattel; Mattel and MGA fought in court over who owned the brand, and in 2010 a federal appeals court ruled that it belonged to MGA. Since 2021, MGA has reissued dolls from the 2000s and added collector dolls with brands like Rodarte and Mean Girls, priced $60 to $250 on its shop.
Bratz age: what the labels say
Short answer: Labels we found say 6 and up.
- Target: "Suggested Age: 6 Years and Up" for a Sassy Stampede doll, with "WARNING: choking hazard - small parts. Not for children under 3 yrs."
- Bratz shop (MGA): "Ages 6+" on Bratziez blind boxes; the doll pages we read didn't print an age.
In 2007, a report by the American Psychological Association's Task Force on the Sexualization of Girls cited concern about the dolls' adult-like look, according to Wikipedia.
Bratziez and other blind boxes
Short answer: Yes, some Bratz items are sold so you don't know which one you'll get.
MGA's Bratz shop sells Bratziez plush charms in blind boxes for $25 (the Bling Seriez was sold out as of October 2026) and an All Dolled Up shoe pack in a blind box for $14.99. Both pages say: "Item selection is random and is in blind packaging. We cannot accept requests for specific items. You may receive duplicates." Core dolls cost $16.99 to $36.99 on the shop as of October 2026.
Bratz recalls
Short answer: Two recalls of Bratz-branded products we found, neither a doll.
In March 2005, MGA and the CPSC recalled about 297,000 Bratz Stylin' Scooters made before July 2004, because the wheels could break. MGA had six reports of cracked wheels; all six children had cuts, scrapes, or bruises, and one 9-year-old broke an arm. In June 2011, MGA recalled about 6,200 Bratz Makeup Design Sketch Book kits because the eye shadow could be contaminated with bacteria; Health Canada said it had no reports of illness. We found no recall of Bratz dolls in the CPSC database.
The habit kids may copy: one more look
Bratz play is mostly outfits, shoes, and new looks. Blind boxes add the hunt for the one that's still missing.
