What is Descendants about?

Short answer: A Disney movie series, made for Disney Channel and Disney+, about the teenage children of Disney villains, sent to live among the heroes' children.

Mal, Maleficent's daughter, and her friends leave the Isle of the Lost for Auradon Prep. The films are musicals: Descendants (July 31, 2015), Descendants 2 (2017), Descendants 3 (2019), Descendants: The Rise of Red (on Disney+ July 12, 2024), and Descendants: Wicked Wonderland (July 16, 2026).

Descendants age rating: what's in it

Short answer: TV-G in the US for all five; PG in the UK for the first three.

• US: TV-G on Disney+.
• UK (BBFC): PG. Descendants, mild scary scene; Descendants 2, mild violence, threat, scary scenes; Descendants 3, mild fantasy threat. We found no BBFC rating for the two newest films.
• Common Sense Media: 8+ for each.

The BBFC describes a woman becoming a dragon and breathing fire, kicks, punches, and sword fights, a man made to walk the plank, and people turned to stone. Common Sense Media calls Descendants 2 "decidedly darker" than the first.

The Rise of Red and Wicked Wonderland

Short answer: Both are TV-G on Disney+, and Common Sense Media lists both for 8+.

For The Rise of Red (2024), Common Sense Media mentions villains threatening others, including children, with beheading, and mild words like "heck." For Wicked Wonderland (2026), it lists peril in Wonderland, insults such as "stupid" and "brat," and teens flirting and holding hands.

The habit kids may copy: "rotten to the core"

The villains' kids are told they're bad because of their parents, and they have to decide for themselves.
