What is Disney Dreamlight Valley?
Short answer: A life-simulation game by Gameloft in which players restore a village of Disney and Pixar characters who lost their memories.
Players create their own character, house, and farm, do daily quests, and befriend characters, using magic to free them and restore their memories, per the ESRB. It came out of early access on December 5, 2023, on PC, PlayStation, Xbox, and Switch, and Gameloft kept it a paid game instead of making it free-to-play. Expansions include A Rift in Time, The Storybook Vale, and Wishblossom Ranch.
Disney Dreamlight Valley age rating: what's in it
Short answer: It's rated E in the US and 3 in Europe.
- US & Canada (ESRB): E, no content descriptors; Users Interact, In-Game Purchases.
- Europe & UK (PEGI): 3, in-game purchases. PEGI says some parts of the village feel slightly spooky, such as werewolves howling in the background, "but there is nothing particularly scary."
- App Store (Arcade Edition): 4+, infrequent contests, user-generated content.
- Common Sense Media: 5+, noting occasional mild peril and mysterious music.
Moonstones, the Star Path, and the Premium Shop
Short answer: Moonstones can be earned in the game or bought with real money.
PEGI says Moonstones buy cosmetic items and that the game can be played without buying them. The Star Path and the Premium Shop use Moonstones; game guides list premium Star Path tiers at 2,500 or 3,300 Moonstones. Neither the ESRB nor PEGI lists paid random items. The Apple Arcade Edition has no in-app purchases, Star Path, or Premium Shop. We couldn't confirm current Moonstone pack prices.
Can kids play with others?
Short answer: Yes, with friends who have their code.
A Valley Visit Station creates a unique code, and up to 3 friends can visit a Valley at a time; multiplayer needs internet. DreamTeams, added with the Winter Ball Update, let players join a private group of up to seven friends with a shared photo feed; Gameloft's page doesn't describe text chat. DreamTeams aren't in the Apple Arcade Edition.
The habit kids may copy: one more outfit
In Dreamlight Valley, there's always a new outfit, piece of furniture, or house style to unlock in the shop.
