What GOAT is about
GOAT is an animated sports comedy from Sony Pictures Animation and Columbia, directed by Tyree Dillihay, with Stephen Curry as a producer and voice actor. Will, a young goat voiced by Caleb McLaughlin, wants to play "roarball," a contact sport dominated by much bigger animals. It came out in US and UK theaters on February 13, 2026, and in Germany on February 19, 2026.
GOAT movie rating: what's in it
Short answer: It's PG in the US and the UK, and 6 in Germany.
- US (MPA): PG, for some rude humor and brief mild language.
- UK (BBFC): PG, for mild violence, rude humor, and language.
- Germany (FSK): 6.
The BBFC describes animal players shoved, kicked, and knocked around in games, a player's horn broken, suspenseful games in arenas with cracking ice and lava, and a panther and a sharp-toothed lizard intimidating smaller creatures, undercut by comedy. Language includes "pissed" and "God." Common Sense Media mentions references to the death of Will's mother and a panther character who not-so-jokingly offers to eat him.
Why young kids know GOAT
It was a wide theatrical release: per Wikipedia, it grossed $195.3 million worldwide ($103 million in the US and Canada), and the San Francisco Chronicle reported it topped the box office in its second weekend. It came out on home video on May 5, 2026.
The habit kids may copy: the big ones push the small ones
The BBFC notes bigger animals behaving in an intimidating way toward smaller creatures. Common Sense Media describes Will as a small goat and says some of the bigger players taunt him.
Try tonight: the small player's question
Ask your child about something they can't do yet, like a jump, a shoelace, or a puzzle. Try it together for one minute, then say: "Not yet. But you're closer than yesterday." In our program, this is the lesson "Not Yet": the trying matters.
