What is PUBG Mobile?
Short answer: A free battle royale shooter for phones in which up to 100 players parachute onto a map and fight until one player or team is left.
It's published by Tencent and based on PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds (PUBG), the PC and console game. Apple's listing mentions voice chat with friends, messaging, user-generated content, and social features.

Why was PUBG banned in India?
Short answer: In September 2020, India's IT ministry blocked 118 apps, including PUBG Mobile titles, under Section 69A of the IT Act, according to the ministry's list and news reports.
The ministry said the apps were "prejudicial to sovereignty and integrity of India," citing reports of user data being sent to servers outside India. Krafton then launched an Indian version, Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI), which was reportedly blocked in July 2022. In May 2023, India's deputy IT minister announced a three-month trial approval for BGMI's return.
