Has X been fined or investigated?
Short answer: Yes, though not for child safety specifically.
- EU fine: in December 2025, the European Commission fined X €120 million under the Digital Services Act over its blue checkmark, ad repository, and researcher data access; X has said it will challenge it.
- Grok images: in January 2026, Ofcom (UK) and the European Commission opened investigations, and California's attorney general sent xAI a cease-and-desist over sexualized images. As of October 2026, we found no final finding or fine.
- FTC: in September 2025, X.AI Corp. was one of seven companies ordered to share information about AI companion chatbots.
