What are the Yoshi games?

Yoshi is the green dinosaur from Nintendo's Mario games, and he stars in his own platform games. In Yoshi and the Mysterious Book (Switch 2, May 2026), Yoshi helps a talking book named Mr. E remember the creatures that live in his pages. Players explore habitats, study creatures and give them names, while Bowser Jr. and Kamek stir up mischief, per Nintendo. Yoshi's Crafted World (Switch, 2019) is set in levels made of paper and cardboard.

Yoshi games: what's in them

Short answer: Recent Yoshi games are rated E for mild violence.

  • Yoshi and the Mysterious Book (ESRB): E, Mild Fantasy Violence; No Interactive Elements.
  • Yoshi's Crafted World (ESRB): E, Mild Cartoon Violence; No Interactive Elements.
  • Common Sense Media: 8+ for Crafted World.

The ESRB says enemies may dive at Yoshi, "resulting in brief yelps of pain (though no lasting damage/injury occurs)," and that Yoshi tosses eggs or rocks. Boss battles show longer fights with cannonballs or objects hitting larger creatures. In Crafted World, enemies are defeated by jumping on them or throwing eggs.

The habit kids may copy: gobble first, ask later

Yoshi tastes almost everything he meets to see what happens. Little kids test the world the same way.

Try tonight: help a forgetful friend

Like Yoshi helping Mr. E, ask your child to help a stuffed toy who "forgot" how to get ready for bed. Let them show each step and say: "I can help you. We do it together." In our program, this is the lesson "Stepping In": we're here to help each other.
