What is Just Dance?

Just Dance is Ubisoft's yearly dance game. Players copy the moves of on-screen dancers, called coaches, and score points for dancing in time. The newest edition, Just Dance: Decades of Hits, came out on October 13, 2026, on Switch, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S, with a Switch 2 version due November 10. Ubisoft says it has 35 songs and an Adventure Mode with six decade-themed worlds, plus a Party Mode, a Workout Mode that tracks calories, and room for up to six people to dance locally.

Just Dance age rating: what's in it

Short answer: E in the US and 3 in Europe.

  • US & Canada (ESRB): E, Mild Lyrics; Users Interact, In-Game Purchases.
  • Europe & UK (PEGI): 3, with no content issues listed.

For Decades of Hits, the ESRB says a handful of songs contain mild suggestive references. For last year's Just Dance 2026 Edition, also rated E, it notes lyrics that reference controlled substances and one song with the word "goddamn." As of October 2026, we couldn't find a Common Sense Media review of the current edition.

Just Dance+, online play, and phones

Short answer: The game sells song packs and a song subscription, and players can interact online.

PEGI says the game sells song packs and a subscription service, and that it can be played without buying them. Ubisoft calls Just Dance+ "a streaming service" with an "ever-growing catalog of songs," and, as of October 2026, lists plans from $4.99 a month to $29.99 a year. The ESRB lists "Users Interact." Ubisoft says "you can also use your phone as a controller." We couldn't confirm camera support in this edition.

The habit kids may copy: dancing for the score

Every move gets a score. Some kids stop watching the dance and start watching the number.

Try tonight: one dance, no score

Put on one song and dance together with no score and no winner. Then try a new move you can't do yet, and say: "Not yet. Let's try again." In our program, this is the lesson "Not Yet": the trying matters.
