Common Sense Media notes there's no product placement in the show itself, but the series has spawned many products aimed at preschoolers.

What critics and parents say about PAW Patrol

Short answer: Published criticism has centered on its police pup, its cast's gender balance and its educational value.

  • Police: In June 2020, during protests over police violence, New York Times critic Amanda Hess wrote about criticism of Chase, the police pup, Fox6 reported. In July 2020, White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany said at a briefing that the show had been canceled; a Nickelodeon spokesperson said it had not been. Local news reported it was still on the air.
  • Gender: A 2019 report by Hopster, a company that sells a children's app (a commercial source), said the show has "only two female dogs alongside the five male leads." Hopster's report covered 50 preschool shows.
  • Common Sense Media: Its diversity note says all six main pups are voiced by White actors and only two are female. An AI-generated summary on its page (labeled "Summarized with AI") says some of the 78 parent reviews criticize the show's educational value, say it promotes "harmful behavior," or find some scenarios frightening.

The habit kids may copy: wait for the rescue

In every episode, a problem shows up and the team comes to fix it. Some kids copy the pattern: when something's hard, they call for help before trying.

Try tonight: what can I try first?

Before you help, ask: "What's one thing you can try first?" Help after the first try. In our program, this is the lesson "Plan B": if one way doesn't work, try another.
