Memberships and the 2021 complaint
Short answer: The game is free, with paid memberships, and advocacy groups complained to the FTC about how they're marketed.
Among listed App Store purchases, memberships cost $12.99 to $25.99 a month, or $74.99 to $154.99 a year. In February 2021, the Campaign for a Commercial-Free Childhood and 21 other groups asked the FTC to investigate, saying the game pushes memberships to children. That was a complaint by advocacy groups, not a government action, and we found no FTC action. According to EdWeek, Prodigy disputed the claims and said all educational content is free.
The habit kids may copy: the paid shortcut
