What is Deltarune?

Short answer: A role-playing game by American indie developer Toby Fox, set in a world parallel to his earlier game Undertale.

Players control a teen named Kris, with companions Susie and Ralsei. Battles are turn-based, with dodging sections, and fights can be settled peacefully or violently. Chapters 1 and 2 came out as free demos in 2018 and 2021; Chapters 3 and 4 arrived with the paid release in June 2025. Chapter 5 was a free update in June 2026; Chapter 6 is planned for 2027.

Deltarune age rating: what's in it

Short answer: It's rated for ages 12–13 and up.

  • US & Canada (ESRB): T for Teen (ages 13 and up).
  • Europe & UK (PEGI): 12, for horror and mild swearing.
  • Germany (USK): 12, for fantasy violence, sexual innuendo, and a dark atmosphere.

Nintendo's US store lists the ESRB descriptors as Drug Reference, Fantasy Violence, Language, Mild Blood, and Suggestive Themes. The ESRB's own search didn't return a Deltarune record, so these come from Nintendo's listing. Common Sense Media has no review.

Purchases and online play

Deltarune is single-player, and we found no online play. It costs $24.99 on Nintendo's US store, with no in-game purchases listed. In March 2025, the free Chapters 1–2 demo got an extra "In-Game Purchases" tag because it linked to the Undertale store page; Toby Fox said this doesn't change the game's overall rating.

The habit kids may copy: fight or spare

In Deltarune, each fight can end peacefully or violently, and the player decides which.

Try tonight: find another way

Tell a short story with a stuck moment: a ball rolls under the couch, a friend grabs a toy. Ask: "What's another way to fix it, without a fight?" Find two answers together. In our program, this is the lesson "Plan B": if one way doesn't work, try another.
